PRINT DESIGN
POSTERS, FLYERS, CARDS, JOURNAL ADS, AND MORE
In my work environment, print design is just as important as creating digital media. While it is important to develop an online presence to reach a wider audience, printed materials cater to our immediate community. This community includes our students, parents, teachers, and the people residing in Mineola and the surrounding areas. Designing for a private high school means creating an elevated and appealing brand for typically mundane things. Print design at Chaminade includes a wide range from student seating charts to newspaper/journal advertisements.
PRINT DESIGN ADVANCES OUR MISSION
At Chaminade, flyers are hung up in the hallways, passed out at alumni events, and given to faculty to share information. But behind the scenes, design plays a large part in advancing the mission through donations and fundraising. We utilize print design to advertise our summer camp program and open house tours while also promoting alumni events. Ads I create can be used as sponsorships in booklets that other non-profits hand out during dinners, galas, or other formal events. Another way we advertise is through neighboring towns’ newspaper ads. We have a great relationship with different Long Island newspapers that keep us in mind when the school year begins. Being involved in advertising allows me to see how Chaminade runs as a non-profit organization. By keeping our internal and external community involved, we can increase participation in donating, which helps keep tuition down and provides financial aid for students in need.
DESIGNING FOR OUR ON-CAMPUS COMMUNITY
The most interesting part of designing at a private high school is being a part of the “corporate” side where fundraising, branding, and advertising take place but also right on campus and a part of the students’ community. I work with teachers, club moderators, and department heads to create posters for the fall play, student certificates, seating configurations, and banners.
